There are things one is expected to do or see when you live here in LaLa Land, and upon my sudden realization that I've been here for two and half years (!) I thought it was time to get down to business, so I strapped on my hiking shoes (ha just kidding) and hopped on the 101.
1. Sit behind Jack Nicholson at a Laker game
2. Tour Warner Bros Studios
My mom and I would reccomed getting there early and enjoying these handy portable single serving white wine glasses- like adult Capri suns!
As a New York museum snob, I will admit I resisted visiting LA's museums with the attitude of "well all the good art is in New York.." But I finally made my way to the LACMA for the Diane Von Furstenberg Journey of a Dress exhibit. It was a beautifully produced gallery of her dresses, press clippings, famous fashion moments, and best of all- art works. I believe from Diane's personal collection, the standouts were the Francesco Clemete, Chuck Close, and Andy Warhol portraits of The Woman Herself, as well as some little seen Helmut Newton photos that were so perfectly 80's.
4. Visit a winery
(ok so wine is on my list a few times) Malibu Wines is a must visit, especially if you have company in town. They'll be in awe of the movie set-like grounds, peppered with vintage trucks and wine barrels, the picnic tables lit by twinkly string lights... You may even spot a B (or C) List celebrity next to you at the tasting bar like my mom and I did!
5. See a movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Creepy? Sure. But no one seems to mind that we are watching a movie in a CEMETERY. But, I suppose 75% of those currently residing there were industry folk, so maybe they don't mind.
6. Bonfire on the beach
Ah yes, my snowed-in East Coasters will hate this... But where else can you have a bonfire on the beach in December for fun, not survival?
7. Dodger Games
As a die-hard Yankee fan, I can say I absolutely love going to Dodger games! The clean, warm stadium is a great place to spend a day or night and easy to access. (ie. cheap tickets)
My favorite cover shoot to date was this one of Matt Kemp for ESPN Magazine... he may not play much, but damn is he good lookin.
